The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Boston Red Sox 6-2 Wednesday in Grapefruit League baseball. Starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs on four hits in three innings of work and took the loss. The Pirates had 10 hits in the game, but none were for extra bases.
One of the Pittsburgh Pirates top prospects suffered an eye injury during training camp Tuesday. Outfielder Austin Meadows sustained a fractured orbital bone near his right eye playing catch. The 20-year old batted over .300 last season at two minor league levels, and had been promoted to Double-A Altoona for the final 25 games.
