The Butler Area Transit Authority is not taking any action at the moment on a request by the Butler VA for service to their new facility in Center Township.
Executive Director John Paul confirmed that the authority received a letter from the VA late last month about including the building on a new bus route once it is finished around a year from now.
If a stop at the new facility was added, the VA would be responsible for paying the authority $4,000 a year. This is identical to the agreement with Butler Health System for service to their new facility in Summit Township. All deals of this kind would increase by five percent per year.
Due to ongoing discussions between Butler Township, Center Township, and Butler City, which could include the Center Township joining the authority, the authority board voted to table acting on that item until further notice.
Paul said that an agreement would need to be in place by January of 2017 in order to allow enough time to plan route modifications before beginning service in the summer of 2017. It is anticipated that one stop at the new VA would be added to what is now Route 5.
