Local residents in need of a ride to the new Butler Health System facility will soon be able to take public transportation.
According to Butler Transit Authority Executive Director John Paul, the agreement will set nine trips a day, every weekday, to the Butler Crossroads facility on Oneida Valley Road. The new trips will be added on to what is currently Route 3 by cutting back on service to the free clinic which is not utilized by many people.
In exchange for the service, Butler Health System has agreed to contribute $4,000 a year in local matching funds to the Transit Authority. The Authority requires an additional contribution when it extends service outside of its normal operating area in Butler city and township.
Paul said he is grateful to BHS for making the decision in order to meet the needs of the community.
The service is expected to begin on April 1.
