The Butler Transit Authority is moving forward with plans to contract with a local agency for a call center.
At the authority’s monthly meeting Tuesday, Executive Director John Paul notified the board that the authority needs to have a call center available for disabled people near their routes to schedule rides. This is required in order to be in compliance with new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.
The Center for Community Resources already has a call center in Butler for other needs and deals with Butler Area Rural Transit (BART) who the authority contracts to provide rides for disabled people. This means that the expense to the authority will be $3,300 in startup costs and $2,800 a month to have the line staffed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day of the week.
With no other options to meet the required regulations, the authority approved an initial six month term followed by a 30-month contract to follow. The number for people to call is not yet available as the service is expected to begin in January.
