A couple of local schools in the Butler Area School District have been chosen to receive grants to improve access to nutritious fruits and vegetables.
Emily Brittain Elementary School has been awarded just over $17,000 and Broad Street Elementary School will collect just over $14,000.
This money is being dispersed by the PA Department of Education through the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program with priority given to schools with the highest rates of students eligible for free and reduced price meals.
Over $7 million in grants have been awarded to nearly 270 elementary schools across Pennsylvania through this program.
