The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 Wednesday afternoon. Pirate pitching allowed five home runs in the game. Starting pitcher Gerrit Cole allowed three of the home runs, and reliever Juan Nicasio allowed the biggest, a two-run game-winner in the eighth inning. Cole allowed four runs on five hits while striking out nine. The Pirates had 11 hits in the game, including three by rookie Josh Bell. Former Pirates Keon Broxton and Neil Walker hit home runs. Broxton hitting his 18th and 19th home runs. Walker hit his 11th of the season. The loss dropped the Pirates 5-1/2 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs.
The Pirates open a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 7:05pm. Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates. Adam Wainwright will start for the Cardinals. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm.
