The Milwaukee Brewers completed a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 4-2 win on Sunday. Pirate starting pitcher Francisco Liriano allowed a run in four of the five innings he pitched, and suffered his 11th defeat of the season. He allowed two solo home runs. The Pirates managed just five hits in the game. Gregory Polanco hit his 15th home run of the season.
The Bucs fell to 52-51 overall and are now 10-games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs. They are four games out of a Wild Card spot. The Pirates are off today and will head to Atlanta tomorrow.
The Pirates traded closer Mark Melancon to the Washington Nationals over the weekend. They added reliever Felipe Rivero and minor league left-hander Taylor Hearn in the deal. The non-waiver trade deadline is 4pm today.
