The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-5 last night to open a four-game series at PNC Park. Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings, including two home runs to Brewers infielder Mike Moustakas. Milwaukee hit four home runs in the game, and pounded 18 hits.
Musgrove’s record fell to 3-6 with a 4.57 ERA. Josh Bell hit his 20th double of the season. Colin Moran hit his sixth home run.
The loss dropped the Pirates to 27-28 and 4-1/2 behind first-place Chicago. The Brewers moved to within a half-game of the idle Cubs.
Chris Archer will start tonight’s game for the Bucs. First pitch is 7:05pm. WISR airtime is 6:40pm.
