The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-4 Sunday. Pirates starting pitcher Chris Archer allowed six runs in the third inning and took the loss. Since being acquired at the trade deadline, Archer has a 6.45 ERA with the Bucs. Adam Frazier had two of the Pirates eight hits and drove in two runs. Gregory Polanco hit his 21st home run of the season.
The loss of the series has dropped the Pirates 8-1/2 games back in the Wild Card race, They now trail the first-place Chicago Cubs by 13. Milwaukee and St. Louis remain the two Wild Card teams in the National League. The Cards trail the Cubs by four games. The Brewers are 4-1/2 back.
The Pirates are off today and begin a three-game series in St. Louis Tuesday.
