Thursday begins Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The annual campaign was started to help increase awareness of the disease. Officials say while most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages.
The American Cancer Society says 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
