Western Pennsylvania-based Dick’s Sporting Goods- one of the nation’s largest sports retailers- will immediately end all sales of assault-style rifles in their stores.
In an announcement Wednesday morning, Dick’s said after the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, assault-style rifles were removed from all Dick’s stores but now, the company will also remove them from all Dick’s-owned Field & Stream stores.
The company will also no longer sell a gun to anyone under 21 and will no longer sell high capacity magazines, regardless of local laws.
Wednesday’s announcement comes two weeks after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida where 17 students and staff were killed. Dick’s said the company’s new policy was a direct response to the Florida shooting.
“We at DICK’S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the tragic events in Parkland. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their loved ones. But thoughts and prayers are not enough,” Edward W. Stack, Chairman & CEO of DICK’S Sporting Goods, said in a statement. Read the entire statement here.
Dick’s Sporting Goods is headquartered in Coraopolis. There are two Dick’s locations in Butler County, in Butler and Cranberry townships. There is a Field & Stream store in Cranberry.
