Two people were hurt and a northern Butler County road was closed for five hours when a tri-axle truck and a car collided.
State police say Zachary Ilgen, 21, of Slippery Rock was driving west on Route 108 in Worth Township around 5 a.m. when he crossed the center lane and collided head-on with a tri-axle truck.
Ilgen’s car caught fire after the crash, which trapped him inside. Firefighters had to rescue him by cutting him out of the car.
Ilgen was flown to UPMC Presby for his injuries. There is no update on his condition.
The truck driver was hurt as well, but not as bad. He was taken to Grove City Medical Center.
Following the crash, between 125 and 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road and then into a small runoff stream that leads to Slippery Rock Creek.
Butler County’s HazMat team was called in to help clean-up. State Police are investigating the crash but have not yet released an accident report.
