It was a much better morning commute for drivers who use the Parkway North to get into Pittsburgh from Butler County.
Interstate 279 was back open and clear of any major accidents on Wednesday morning. That was not the case on Tuesday as the road was closed beginning at 5 a.m. for nearly 12 hours following a serious crash.
One person was killed- 64-year-old Bryant Beiter of Munhall. Police say he was driving a dump truck on southbound I-279 when he crashed into a center median.
The truck’s load of slag dust spilled onto the roadway, obstructing visibility for drivers traveling behind the truck and causing more wrecks. In total, seven vehicles were involved and three others were injured.
