No one was hurt when a Slippery Rock home caught fire on Monday.
Firefighters from seven different departments were called to the home on Route 108 (New Castle Road)- near The Birdwatchers Store- shortly before 11 a.m.
“We arrived on scene and found heavy smoke coming from the attic area,” Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company Chief Ryan Hanchosky said. “All occupants were out of the house. First-in crew made access to the attic, found the fire, had a quick knockdown on it, and then just extensive overhaul to ensure that the fire was out.”
No one was injured. The fire was reported by a passerby as the homeowner was not home at the time.
According to Hanchosky, although damage was contained to the attic area, the structure is not livable at this time.
“There was serious fire damage to the attic. It’s not livable, but all their personal belongings on the first floor and basement were salvageable,” he said.
The State Police Fire Marshal was notified to help determine the cause.
Firefighters cleared the scene by around 12:30 p.m. Slippery Rock crews were also called out later in the day on Monday for a small chimney fire and a minor traffic accident.
