The weather has caused thousands and thousands of power outages, hundreds of downed trees, and other issues throughout Butler County.
In total, nearly 40,000 residents in Butler County are in the dark, as of 8 a.m. Friday.
Nearly 30,000 West Penn Power residents are without power. That’s 28 percent of all West Penn customers in the county.
Another 9,000 Central Electric Cooperative customers are in the dark. That’s 91 percent of all CEC customers in Butler County.
In total, 15,000 CEC customers across their coverage area are without power. That’s about 59 percent of all customers.
The heavy ice on the trees has caused many limbs to fall across the road; some limbs have fallen on cars.
The Butler County 911 Center has been fielding hundreds of emergency calls throughout the overnight. There have been several transformer fires and explosions. Power lines are down county-wide.
The incidents are too numerous to count.

The number of outages has continued to climb this morning.
As of now in total, nearly 46,000 residents in Butler County are in the dark.
More than 37,000 West Penn Power residents are without power. That’s 35 percent of all West Penn customers in the county.
Another 9,000 Central Electric Cooperative customers are in the dark. That’s nearly 95 percent of all CEC customers in Butler County.
In total, 16,000 CEC customers across their coverage area are without power. That’s 65 percent of all customers. CEC says nine substations are de-energized due to power supply. CEC has requested crews from multiple other cooperatives in our region to join restoration efforts throughout the day and weekend.
