UPDATE (9 a.m.):
The low-power issue affecting Central Electric Cooperative members in the Prospect area has been resolved.
CEC’s Ken Maleski says residents can use their electricity as normal. The problem originated with the power supplier.
About 8 a.m. Wednesday, the power supply for roughly 1,000 CEC customers in Prospect went to low-voltage, and residents were being asked to turn off the main breaker to their homes in order to avoid frying their motors.

Original Post (8:20 a.m.):
Roughly 1,000 Central Electric Cooperative members are being affected by a low-voltage problem on Wednesday morning.
CEC’s Ken Maleski says the issue started about 8 a.m. at the Prospect substation.
“If residents would turn their main breaker off for the whole house until power is restored so they don’t experience any damage to any kind of equipment,” Maleski said.
Maleski says a low-voltage issue is actually worse than a power outage because it can burn up the motors of anything that is running- like a furnace motor, refrigerator or freezer.
