The Atlanta Braves dumped the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-4 last night. Pirate starting pitcher Jeff Locke allowed five earned runs on nine hits and took the loss. He pitched just 4-1/3rd innings. Reliever Juan Nicasio allowed an additional three runs to the Braves, who had 15 hits in the game. The Pirates posted all four of their runs in the top of the first inning. Matt Joyce hit his 11th home run of the season.
The Pirates did not have Andrew McCutchen or Josh Harrison in the starting line-up for the second consecutive game.
The Bucs and Braves wrap-up their three game series tonight. Ryan Vogelson will make his first start for the Pirates since being struck in the head with a pitch. Game time is 7:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:45pm.
The Butler BlueSox suffered a 14-2 defeat in Terre Haute last night. The Rex pounded 19 hits off BlueSox pitchers. The two teams play again tonight.
