Mars, Pennsylvania will be celebrating the Martian New Year this week with a huge celebration.
This is the second such event for Mars, although it’s been two years since the last one was held. Missy Gralish, the Mars New Year Media Communications Coordinator, talked to our radio station and said there is a reason for the time lapse. She says it take 687 earth days for the planet Mars to circle the sun. So, the planet Mars celebrates its Mars New Year every 687 days.
The celebration got started with Mayor Gregg Hartung reaching out to NASA and pointing out that Mars, PA is possibly the only place in the country, and even world, that has a town called Mars Borough. That peaked NASA’s interested and the two started to partner together.
A ‘Blast-Off Dinner’ kicks things off on Thursday, May 4, 2017. This ticketed event has limited seating but Astronaut Dr. Jay Aptb will be the featured speaker.
Free events will be happening throughout the weekend, both Friday and Saturday.
