The Butler BlueSox picked up a key 7-6 victory over the West Virginia Miners last night in the Prospect League. Ben Carew hit a game-winning two-run home run in the seventh inning for the BlueSox. He had two extra-base hits among his three hits in the game. Butler-area native Wyatt Daugherty, a pitcher for Slippery Rock University earned the save by closing out the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The victory improved to the BlueSox to 30-21 overall, best in the Prospect League. They lead West Virginia and Champion City by three games in the Eastern Division with nine games remaining. The win also gave the Sox their ninth win of the season over the Miners, which would guarantee a tie-breaker if necessary. West Virginia and Champion City 11 games remaining. Seven of those games they will play each other due to rainouts. The BlueSox have a magic number of seven to win the Eastern Division.
Butler will host the Danville Dans from the Western Division tonight and Friday. Tonight is a “Thirsty Thursday” promotion. Friday’s game is alread sold out.
