David Marcus of the Butler BlueSox was the runner-up in the Prospect League’s annual Home Run Derby. The event is part of All-Star week events being held in Richmond, Indiana. Zach Sterry of the West Virginia Miners was the winner. Sterry won round one and the head-to-head battle 6-4 with Marcus in round three. Marcus had won the second round, hitting two shots off the right field lights. He currently leads the Prospect League in hits, home runs and is second overall in batting average.
The All-Star game itself schedule for tonight at 7:05pm at McBride Stadium in Richmond.
BlueSox pitcher Connor Coward was named the Prospect League Pitcher of the Week. Coward started the July 5th game against Jamestown and allowed just one run on six hits over eight innings in the BlueSox 5-1 win. The pitcher from Virginia Tech also struck out nine and walked just one. On the season, Coward is now 2-1 with a 3.25 ERA in three starts.
