Earlier this week we told you that the Game Commission was investigating a case of suspected bird flu in Venango County.
Officials say that it has now been confirmed. Five Merganser ducks near Kahle Lake died of the avian flu.
State Representative R. Lee James said in a statement that owners of backyard chickens should be aware of this strain of bird flu, known as HPAI.
It’s a highly pathogenic disease that can impact all types of birds resulting in severe illness or death.
However, the disease is considered to be low risk to humans as no cases have been reported in the U.S.
