A bill is now awaiting Governor Tom Wolf’s signature that would toughen penalties against drivers who don’t pay tolls.
The state house approved the bill that would allow for a vehicle registration to be suspended if the unpaid tolls reached $250; currently the number to lose your registration is $500.
It would also drop the number of unpaid toll invoices from six to four.
A recent audit of the Turnpike showed that there was more than $100 million in unpaid tolls.
