A bill named after a University of Pittsburgh student who was murdered earlier this year in her apartment has passed the state Senate.
Now, the proposed Alina’s Law is one step closer to becoming a law.
Alina Sheykhet was found murdered by her ex-boyfriend in her off-campus apartment in October. The bill would allow judges to order a defendant in a protection from abuse order to wear an electronic-monitoring device.
Sheyhket had filed a PFA against her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Darby, days before she was killed.
Darby formerly lived in Cranberry and is a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.
