The sale of fireworks could soon be legal in Pennsylvania.
The state Senate’s Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee held a hearing Wednesday on Senate Bill 1055, which would lift the ban on the sale of consumer fireworks currently in place.
If passed, legal state businesses would be able to sell fireworks like bottle rockets, roman candles and mortars to Pennsylvania residents without a permit.
However, they would pay a $5,000 annual license fee. The state would also collect revenue from the six percent sales tax on the fireworks, as well as an excise tax that would benefit emergency responders.
