Legislation proposed by a local lawmaker would expand the number of nursing education programs in the state and could help improve the quality of life for current nurses.
Republican State Representative Aaron Bernstine whose 10th Legislative District includes part of Butler County recently re-introduced House Bill 2278 after first doing so in 2020.
This proposal would clarify that applicants for a registered nurse or advance practice nurse license can receive education at any institution accredited by an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
Current law only permits regionally accredited institutions to offer nurse education programs. Bernstine believes that expanding the possibilities for nurse education would help increase the number of nurses available as well as decrease stress for current nurses.
