It’s an unofficial holiday across the state of Pennsylvania. It’s the opening day of the firearm deer hunting season.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission expects 750,000 hunters from age 12 to senior citizens to take to fields and woods in search of a whitetail. Nearly a quarter of the season’s buck harvest- roughly 83,000 deer- is expected to occur today.
Most schools- and even some businesses- are closed on Monday as part of an extended Thanksgiving break and to mark the unofficial hunting holiday.
