The 14th exciting season of shows at Butler County Community College’s Succop Theater kicks off tonight.
The first event of the Local Artists Series, The Prodigal Sons, begins to shows tonight, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. This production features a local cast and crew.
“This is an original musical written by Jeannie Allen from Butler,” Larry Stock, the Director of the Cultural Center at BC3, told our newsroom. “She had previously written the show Esther that we had produced. The show is very well written…it’s a good show. It’s a little more secular, it’s about the prodigal son.”
Another event later in this series that is returning from last year is the Tornado Big Band.
“They were amazing last year,” Stock said. “We had the largest walk up at the door for any concert at the Succop Theater. We had a wonderful turnout and we split the proceeds. I don’t charge them to perform and I don’t pay them a fee but I give them money on it so they get the benefit on that for all the money that comes in, they get 50 percent of the gross. They get that money to help the band and help support them.”
In addition to the Local Artists Series, the theater will also see the return of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic Series, as well as the Performing Arts Series which again includes the Duquesne Tamburitzans.
