An event later this week will better prepare those attending for the worst.
An Emergency Preparedness Symposium will be held Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Founders Hall. It’s sponsored by BC3 and the Butler County Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Steve Catt is Director of Event Management at Butler County Community College.
“The bulk of this particular symposium is going to put our audience through a simulation and in the midst of that, we’re going to do a lot of teaching and a lot of training on what you can expect and what resources are out there to assist,” Catt said.
Federal, state and local speakers as well as utility companies, health providers, and insurers will present information about planning, protecting and rebounding from different kinds of disasters.
BC3 is uniquely equipped to host this kind of gathering.
“Butler County Community College is one of only four higher ed institutions that own the Advanced Disaster Management Simulator. It’s called ADAMS and we’re going to use that to depict what’s happening during this disaster so you’re going to actually see the disaster unfold on the big screen up front and we’re going to have to react to whatever this disaster is,” Catt explained.
Tickets are $35 which includes breakfast and lunch. Visit butlercountychamber.com. for more information.
