Butler County Community College will be one of the only local places where entry-level natural gas and oil industry employees can take a course about worksite safety.
The Energy Safety Passport workshop is a four-hour class offered in cooperation with the Energy Innovation Center in Pittsburgh.
Seats are still open for the class scheduled for Jan. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Facility on BC3’s Main Campus. The course will also be offered monthly throughout 2017.
The class costs $125 and includes instruction on employer and employee rights and responsibilities as well as personal safety, protective equipment, risk assessment, and chemical hazards. Nearly 20,000 workers were directly employed in natural gas development in Pennsylvania as of June of 2016, according to the state Department of Labor.
