Butler County Community College is looking to sell their building in Mercer County.
BC3 has listed their Linden Pointe branch campus in Hermitage for sale.
According to BC3’s Vice President for Administration and Finance Jim Hrabosky, the number of students at that location has fallen significantly.
“At one point in time we were serving about 300 students in that location,” Hrabosky said. “Now, we’re down to about 40 students.”
However, Hrabosky says they will still have a presence in Mercer County and are eyeing a partnership with another college in the area.
“The alternative we have, and we’re leaning in that direction heavily if we sell Linden Pointe, we want to take our operation and take a community college onto a Penn Sate branch campus,” Hrabosky said.
BC3 launched a feasibility study earlier this year to look at a partnership with Penn State Shenango in Sharon.
Hrabosky believes that the partnership would give students a great opportunity to earn their initial credits through BC3 and then make for an easy transition to a four-year instituion.
Hrabosky says this will also help with the operating budget, as BC3 is projecting a $1.4 million loss this upcoming school year.
