Butler’s new food service vendor has a meeting with a state agency this week and the result will affect how quickly more changes will be made.
Representatives from The Nutrition Group gave the Butler Area School Board an update during a meeting Monday on the progress of their continued roll-out, including a meeting scheduled for Friday with representatives from the PA Department of Agriculture.
Although additions have already been made at the High School and Intermediate buildings, big changes involving food preparation at the elementary buildings are on hold until after the Friday meeting.
Statistics comparing last year to this year reveal that more breakfasts have been sold so far this year, about the same amount of lunches, and a large decline in ala carte spending. The company looks forward to hearing from Youth Advisory Councils later this month for feedback on how they are doing.
Nutrition Group representatives commented that there are some growing pains going on with staff communication and adjusting to new ways of doing things. A total of 52 food service employees of the district remain and Nutrition Group is still looking to hire 11 of their own employees.
