Students in the Butler Area School District will pay more next year for the privilege of parking on campus as well as participating in athletic activities.
By a vote of 5-4, the school board decided Monday to raise the price of a parking pass from $75 to $100. All parking fees go toward paying for parking lot upkeep projects like paving and line painting. According to district administrators, even with the increase, Butler’s fees will still be low in comparison with many other districts in the area.
Next, by a vote of 7-2, the board increased athletic activity fees from the current $60 per student per year to $75 per student per year with a cap of $300 per family. About $35,000 is collected per semester with this fee and an additional $13,000 is expected to be raised with the increase, according to district officials. Proceeds from the athletic fees are kept within the athletic department.
Finally, the price of tickets to Butler athletic events will increase by one dollar per ticket. According to district administrators, Butler’s ticket prices are still low in comparison to other similar-sized local districts even with the dollar increase. The board expects to discuss the possibility of other activity fees at their meeting next month.
