The most recent preliminary Butler Area School District budget figures anticipate deficits of over $3 million each of the next two years.
Director of Business Services Deborah Brandstetter provided the board Monday night with her most recent calculations, including a deficit of $3.2 million during the current 2016-17 school year. The anticipated deficit for 2017-18 is $3.4 million even with a 3.2 Mill increase in real estate taxes.
The district currently has just over $10 million in their general fund but that number could drop to just over $3 million a little over a year from now.
Many on the board are also concerned due to the fact that the district only has an estimated $20,000 in their capital projects fund which is used for projects like paving and new roofs.
