The Butler Area School District will contract with The Nutrition Group to provide food service next school year.
The board made the decision at their meeting Monday night. This company has guaranteed the district a profit of $150,000 for the upcoming 2016-17 school year, school officials say.
District food service management employees have already been told that their jobs are being eliminated. Negotiations continue with food service union employees and one of two plans will be adopted. In the first, all food service workers would be employees of The Nutrition Group. In the other, current employees would still be Butler Area School District employees while new hires would be paid by the vendor.
The board is expected to finalize their food service plans at a special meeting to be held next week (Thursday, June 30) at 12 p.m. at the district’s administration building.
