The Butler Area School District is continuing forward in the process adding to facilities at the Senior High School.
At their regular meeting Monday night, the district’s Board of School Directors approved the awarding of bids for construction of an auxiliary gymnasium with a total cost of just over $2.8 million.
General contracting will be provided by Mark Hudson Construction out of Hermitage at a cost of just over $2.1 million. The HVAC work has been awarded to Pittsburgh-based R&B Mechanical for nearly $250,000. Right Electrical in Butler will do the electrical work on the project for nearly $245,000. Kittanning-based Enders Plumbing and Heating will provide plumbing work at a cost of $221,000.
This 11,000 square foot pre-engineered building with blue metal paneling, opaque glass, and concrete block will be used mostly for physical education classes with collapsible seating for 350 spectators. This facility will be placed on an area that is already paved and also will allow for LED lighting, new restrooms, and locker room reorganization.
Pending final approval from the Butler Township Commissioners later this month, construction is expected to begin at the end of the school year with some supplies arriving before then. The board previously approved Eckles Construction Services to manage the project at a cost of $293,000. A classroom addition project is expected to go out to bid next month.
