An inmate at the Butler County Prison died earlier this week despite rescue efforts of staff.
Warden Joe DeMore told our newsroom…“They were calling him out of his cell for some programming. He didn’t respond. They went in and he was unresponsive. We administered CPR. They used the AED also and continued that until the EMTs came and removed him from the building.”
DeMore said 65-year-old Charles Petredis was discovered unresponsive in his cell around 10 a.m. Monday. EMTs arrived about 20 minutes later to take him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
DeMore does not recall any similar incidents occurring during his time at the prison however staff are ready for the possibility with regular training.
“Everyone of our correctional employees has CPR training,” he said. “They’re re-certified every two years.”
An exact cause of death is pending results of an anticipated autopsy.
