AT&T is shutting down its 3G service starting today.
That means if you have an older smartphone that relies on the 3G network, it won’t be able to make calls or send texts.
AT&T is the first wireless carrier to shutdown 3G. T-Mobile is expected to end its 3G service at the end of March; Verizon is waiting until the end of the year.
3G networks had to be replaced in order to make way for 5G, which will provide newer smartphones will faster service overall.
