The Houston Astros defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-1 last night in the first game of a three-game series in Houston. Former Pirates top draft pick Gerrit Cole limited the Pirates to one run over six innings. He allowed seven hits and struck out three. Pirates starter Trevor Williams allowed eight hits and four earned runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. Williams allowed two home runs in 6-2/3rds innings.
Colin Moran and Elias Diaz led the Bucs with two hits each. The Pirates stranded eight runners.
The Pirates fell back to 36-41 overall heading into tonight’s game at 8:10pm. They have recalled pitcher Dario Agrazal from Indianapolis to take the mound tonight. Agrazal made his Major League debut June 15th in Miami, but was pounded for seven runs in his first start back at Triple-A Indianapolis last Thursday.
