A recently released ranking has neighboring Armstrong County fourth in the nation in the percentage of homes that report gun ownership.
According to City-Data, nearly 58 percent of homes in Armstrong report gun ownership. Westmoreland County also made the list at 27th with about 44 percent of homes reporting gun ownership. Butler County was not on the list. Fairbanks North Star Borough in Alaska ranked first on the most-armed list.
Some authorities say they aren’t surprised local areas made the list because of the fact that hunting is popular in Western Pennsylvania.
Statewide, 27 percent of Pennsylvanians own a gun, according to the Injury Prevention journal.
