American Red Cross volunteers from across the region will participate in an event this weekend on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
The Western Pennsylvania Region of the American Red Cross is holding a Disaster Institute beginning this Friday through Sunday and over 130 volunteers are expected to attend.
A wide variety of courses will be available for participants including sheltering, disaster assessment, mass care and feeding. Other courses will prepare volunteers to be deployed to other parts of the country in the event of a disaster.
In addition to front-line disaster relief positions, volunteers are needed in many other different areas such as public affairs and blood drive ambassadors. Visit redcross.org/volunteer to see a list of local opportunities.
