The economy in Western Pennsylvania picked up steam in May as more people entered the labor market and employers added almost 16,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate in the Pittsburgh market (which is a seven-county area including Butler) ticked up to 5.4 percent in May compared to the month before, according to the state’s monthly labor report.
In Butler County, the jobless rate was 4.8 percent in May…the lowest of the seven-county region.
Payroll numbers showed increases in construction, leisure and hospitality jobs, offset by a decline in education positions.
