After a tumultuous offseason for former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, he is now facing a lawsuit in federal court accusing him of sexual assault and rape.
Brown, who was officially signed by the New England Patriots on Monday, is not currently facing any criminal charges. The civil lawsuit was filed by Britney Taylor, who allegedly attended college at Central Michigan with Brown and was also employed as Brown’s trainer. Taylor contends that Brown sexually assaulted her three separate times from 2017 to 2018.
Brown’s lawyer, Darren Heitner, issued a statement saying that Brown and Taylor did indeed have a sexual relationship, but denies any wrongdoing on Brown’s behalf.
The New England Patriots have released statement in regards to the recently filed lawsuit against Brown.
“We are aware of the civil lawsuit that was filed earlier today against Antonio Brown, as well as the response by Antonio’s representatives,” the Patriots said. “We take these allegations very seriously. Under no circumstance does this organization condone sexual violence or assault. The league has informed us that they will be investigating. We will have no further comment while that investigation takes place.”
Brown is scheduled to practice today with the Patriots.
