A Pittsburgh businessman officially threw his hat into the ring to become the Republican nominee for governor.
Paul Mango is a former health care consultant and West Point grad whose bid for top spot in the commonwealth is his first official run for public office.
The 58-year-old Mango is a Pine Township resident who stressed his military background during his announcement speech Wednesday evening at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland.
Despite this being his first run at political office, Mango has contributed significantly to the Republican party.
Mango joins York State Senator Scott Wagner in the GOP field for governor. House Speaker Mike Turzai is strongly considering a run and is expected to announce in the coming months. Congressman Mike Kelly has also been rumored to make a possible bid in the gubernatorial race.
