There were protests inside and outside the state capitol Monday during what officials are calling the highest-profile Electoral College since 2000.
The scene in Harrisburg was reminiscent of those in other states, with protesters urging electors to reject Donald Trump’s victory.
Elector Ash Khare says he was under enormous pressure to not cast his ballot for Donald Trump, but that’s not how the republic works.
“I received over 70,000 emails, over 5,000 letters and over 500 phones calls at all times of the day and night…I told them, ‘I’m not going to change my mind,’” Khare said.
Like Khare, all 20 of Pennsylvania’s electors held true to the will of the people and cast their ballots for Donald Trump and Mike Pence.
Some protesters say they will continue their push in the U.S. House of Representatives, the next stop for the ballots.
