The Allegheny Health Network has started construction on a $20 million cancer center in Butler.
AHN Cancer Institute-Butler will be located off Hansen Avenue in the City of Butler in the Pullman Business Park. It will be a two-story, 34,000-square foot facility where people will be able to access medical oncology and infusion therapy, clinical trials and radiation oncology.
Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network say this new facility is part of a bigger initiative to bring high-quality care to residents outside of Pittsburgh.
“At AHN, we understand that a cancer patient’s experience and outcome are both enhanced greatly by having access to high-quality, comprehensive clinical and support services under one roof and in a location that is the most convenient to them and their families,” Cynthia Hundorfean, AHN’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement released Wednesday. “We are excited to bring this outstanding level of cancer care to our patients who live and work in Butler County.”
The planned AHN Cancer Institute – Butler facility is part of a previously-announced $225 million investment by Highmark Health and AHN that includes a new academic cancer center facility at Allegheny General Hospital, the establishment of multiple community-based cancer treatment centers, and an expanded relationship with the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, offering enhanced local access to Johns Hopkins’ cancer expertise and clinical trials.
Officials say the Pullman Business Park was chosen for its proximity to the greatest number of patients, availability of parking and potential for future expansion. The facility is expected to open in early 2019 and will employ approximately 20 health care professionals.
