The state Department of Agriculture is putting a temporary stop to showing birds at events like the fair due to the spread of the avian flu.
Officials say that while the disease seems to be concentrated on wild birds, they feel like this is an appropriate step to take.
The ban is for 60 days—meaning it should expire before the Butler Farm Show in August.
In addition to poultry shows, the department is also putting a temporary stop on egg exhibitions.
Agriculture officials say that chicken and eggs are still safe to eat and there is currently no threat to humans from the disease.
