State agriculture officials are once again sounding the alarm about the spotted lanternfly.
Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding was in Washington County last week, which was just added to the spotted lanternfly quarantine list earlier this year.
Redding spoke in front of a rail yard, because research has found the lanternfly can move into different areas through commerce.
“Anything with wings is a problem. It is going to move. It’s not that it flies long distances, but it has wings and it can get around. It really is opportunist to travel with us as we move across the state and region,” Redding said.
Redding urged residents to kill a spotted lanternfly anytime you see it. He also suggested setting up circle traps.
“Everyone has a role to play, especially as Pennsylvanians travel for vacations. We ask you to remain vigilant and continue to look before you leave,” Redding said.
