An active shooter drill was held earlier this week at the Butler County Government Center.
Butler County Commissioner Kevin Boozel said this was the first time that this type of drill was done. It was voluntary to participate, held after regular office hours and facilitated by the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.
Boozel said it was a great learning experience for everyone to understand exactly how the security system inside the government center works. The building is staffed by armed sheriff’s deputies and monitored by security cameras.
“The drill was very well received,” Boozel said. “It went well.”
“I’ve received emails from employees thanking us for having one,” Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche said.
If there ever is an emergency inside the center, county employees can dial a specific number from landline phones in the building to reach the main security desk. Some offices also have panic buttons, which can trigger an alarm if pressed.
About 40-50 people participated, according to Boozel. Drill was held on Tuesday night.
County officials say they could have future drills- maybe some that are mandatory- in the future.
