The man accused of killing 11 people inside the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh last fall will face capital punishment.
Prosecutors with the U.S. Justice Department filed notice of intent Monday that they will seek the death penalty against 46-year-old Robert Bowers for the shooting last October.
The decision to seek the death penalty comes shortly after two of the three congregations that worshiped at Tree of Life said they wanted Bowers to serve life and avoid the death penalty.
Bowers reportedly continues to be held in the Butler County Prison. He was transferred there in the days after his arrest.
