As schools recess for the summer, AAA says this week marks the beginning of the “100 deadliest days” for teen drivers.
According to the travel agency, historical data shows that fatal accidents for younger drivers increase in between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
16 and 17-year-old drivers are three times as likely to be involved in a fatal crash as other adult motorists while also more likely to do risky activities while driving such as speeding, texting, or running red lights.
AAA recommends that parents of teen drivers talk with them about the dangers of distracted driving as well as nighttime driving. Teens can also complete a comprehensive driver education course through the AAA website.
